MWENEZI-The Ministry of Skills Audit and Development comes to Mwenezi for the Skills Fair.

Tinos Ndirowei showcasing his paintings.

Several artists from around Mwenezi gathered at St Vitalis Primary School for the skills fair. Among some of the artists was Tinos Ndirowei a teacher at Mafomoti Secondary a painter who showcased a number of his artworks including abstract artworks showing the need for unity among different tribes.

It was quite a great day for the skills development programme. However, there were a lot of discrepancies with regards to organising of this event since many Mwenezi based talents were not even aware of the event. These include academic researcher, writer and poet Chana CheMasvingo, Agrippa Tivarere-Chiteretere, Matande Dance Group not forgetting the Chitanga Xitsonga Dance Group. Contacted for comment Chiteretere commented, ‘I am not even aware there is a skills fair. ‘ Chiteretere has not only represented the district but province and nation in South Africa for cultural exchange programmes and has performed at many or not all events held in the district.

The criterion for selection remains blurry because the talent that participated is not representative of the talent in Mwenezi District. In spite of all these shortcomings it was a great day as the participants showcased their work. Leornard Musvoti and Luka Macheza from Musaverema showcased their wooden wheelbarrow made from Mumveva Tree. Stephen Mutunhu also displayed an aeroplane made out of discarded empty twenty litre plastic comtainers. Also gracing the event was Witness Masukume representing the District Development Coordinator for Mwenezi, Madam Lucy Zhou who represented Mwenezi Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer, Mr Munyoro representing the Public Service Commission and the office of the MP for Mwenezi North Constituency Master Pikilo Makope was well represented. The Director in the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development Mr . P. Ngorima explained that the ministry is set to scout for talent so that it can be developed to empower individuals and communities.
