MILLICENT HUNGWE
Tinotenda Maunganidze (32)’s body was found floating in the Chishamiso canal on May 5 at around 9am in a state of decomposition after missing for three days.
The ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that at Farm 54, Hippo Valley, Maunganidze arrived for his shift on May 2 around 1700 hours while stone drunk.
His supervisor soon noticed his state and made the decision to send him back home, citing that his intoxication would hinder his ability to perform his duties safely and effectively.
Three days later, on May 5, around 9 am, an informant saw a body floating in the Chishamiso canal.
The informant promptly alerted the authorities, and the police retrieved the body, taking it to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Inspector Dhewa urged the public to exercise caution and avoid crossing rivers or water bodies while drunk, as impaired judgment can lead to fatal accidents.
