In village of Mupuwa in Zaka, Masvingo Province, a 9-month-old baby, Ropafadzo Chilo, succumbed to injuries allegedly inflicted by her stepfather, Anymore Chabata(26).
Chabata is on the run for the alleged murder police has confirmed.
Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson informed the press that, the tragic events unfolded on March 23, when Chabata, returned home late and had a fierce argument with his 14-year-old wife.
In a fit of rage, Chabata allegedly assaulted his wife with a stick, causing her to fall while holding baby Ropafadzo, in the process, the baby was struck on the back and right armpit.
Shockingly, Chabata and his wife did not seek medical attention for the injured baby, whose health rapidly deteriorated.
On March 30, the couple visited the wife’s parents in Chiredzi where she unfortunately died.
Zaka police were notified, and a manhunt for Chabata is currently underway.
Inspector Dhewa emphasized the importance of reporting abusive partners to the authorities, stressing that “such offenders must be arrested to save lives.”
