State of art locks foil Econet booster robbers

RUSAPE-State of the art locks on Econet batteries foiled armed robbers who pounced on the boosters in Rusape and Nyazura on 14 and 15 December respectively.

After tying up security guards and taking away their cellphones the four robbers who were armed with two unknown rifles tried to open the keys where the batteries were locked but failed to gain entry as the locks were well secured.

Manicaland Province police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the robberies.

At Nyazura Econet Booster on December 15 at around 2am the four robbers tied up two security guards Richard Takawira (27) of Loratea Farm and Sisko Matekwe (41) of NRZ Quarters and stole their cellphones and diesel but failed to open the battery cage which tightly locked.

The security guards were also beaten up and the robbers disappeared while the matter was reported to ZRP Nyazura.

At Magamba Econet booster in Rusape on December 14 at 6pm five armed robbers pounced on the guard, Lenon Sana (35) of Magamba Extension was tied up his legs and hands and took away his cellphone.

The robbers who are still at large covered the CCTV with a cloth but Sana screamed attracting the attention of nearby resident who went on to report to the police and the robbers escaped.

Of all the stolen items nothing has been recovered.

Chinyoka appealed to the public for information that may lead to the arrest of the robbers who are now targeting booster batteries.
