MASVINGO-The annual St Cecilia celebrations choral competitions which have been on sabbatical due to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic are set to be held in Masvingo Diocese this November at Gokomere.
In a recent letter in the hands of The Midweek Watch the Zimbabwe Catholic Association for Sacred Music (ZICASAM) indicated that this year’s St Cecilia Celebrations on the 25th of November 2023 in the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, at Gokomere Mission.
“This year’s St Cecilia Celebrations are on the 25th of November 2023 in the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, at Gokomere Mission”.
“The notation of the Set Piece song, Makafanirwa kurumbidzwa, composed by the late Georgina Mositafu is as attached on this letter”.
Ignitius Mapanzure, the chairperson for Masvingo Diocese and national treasurer of Sacred Music ministry told The Midweek Watch that the preparations for the competition are now at an advanced stage.
“Preparations for St Cecilia celebrations choral competitions are now at an advanced stage although we had some hiccups on the issue of the venue but it has now been settled, we are going to hold our competitions at Gokomere Mission”, said Mapanzure.
“Although we are now on the advanced stage on our preparations we still need sponsors from all over to help us with whatever they can so that our event is held smoothly”.
The national choral competitions were last held in Hwange and the winners were South West Harare Deanery.
