Silveira scoops CASA Bishop’s Trophy

Bikita District based Silveira High School came out tops at the 2024 Masvingo Roman Catholic Diocese run schools games held at Gokomere from last week on Friday.

There were 19 schools that competed for the coveted Bishop’s Trophy.

The 2024 edition ran under the theme: Enlarge the Space of Your Tent and Masvingo Diocese Education Secretary, Father Samson Mutsvanga was the guest of honor.

 Silveira scooped the Bishop’s Trophy after bagging five gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the 2024 edition of the prestigious Catholic Schools Association (CASA) competitions which are held every year.

Silveira wrestled the Bishop’s Trophy from defending champions Gutu District based Mukaro High School.

The host school, Gokomere came a close second with four gold and two silver medals followed by Chivi District based Berejena who got three gold, two silver and a bronze medal.

 Berejena won gold in soccer with Praise Chokuda from the school being voted best player of the tournament and Gloria Nyengera from the same school as the best in netball.

The overall champions, Silveira won gold in the boys and girls handball categories tennis and girls’ volleyball. Gokomere won gold in both volleyball categories, girls’ chess and choir.

 Berejena bagged gold in darts, netball and soccer.

“We are naturally excited as a school for winning the prestigious Bishop’s Trophy against some of the best schools in the country,” said the high riding Silveira head Stern Mutsambiwa.
