Silobela man killed by rival suitor

SILOBELA-A-31-year-old man from Silobela has been killed by a rival suitor over a dispute involving a girlfriend.
According to the police, the incident occurred on July 26, 2024 at around 9pm.
The now-deceased Collious Ncube and the suspect, Thabani Dube (24), both from Mthethethe Village under Chief Malisa in Silobela, were drinking beer at Linda Business Centre.
The two had a misunderstanding over a girlfriend, which resulted in Dube withdrawing a knife and stabbing Ncube multiple times until he became unconscious.
Ncube was rushed to Silobela District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In an unrelated incident that took place in Zhombe, Cliff Maunganidze (36) was killed over a $5 change dispute.
The incident occurred on July 27, 2024, around 2am when a misunderstanding ensued between Maunganidze and Mariny Marimbe.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko stated that Marimbe, who is now in police custody, picked a drill bit and assaulted Maunganidze all over the body.
He said despite efforts by villagers to restrain him, Marimbe picked up an axe handle and a hoe and severely assaulted Maunganidze before dragging him and locking him up in a room used as a fowl run.
Maunganidze was found dead the following morning by the suspect’s sister when she unlocked the room.
