SILOBELA– A 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed while walking to an Apostolic Church shrine in Silobela, police said, as they launched a manhunt for the five unidentified suspects involved.
According to the Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the victim, Mehluli Weza of Village Ntombakala under Chief Malisa in Silobela, was attacked last Wednesday around 6:25 p.m while in the company of his wife, Siphiwe Moyo.
The couple was walking along a footpath in Village Mpandawana under Chief Malisa, when they encountered five men heading in the opposite direction.
Two of the suspects allegedly grabbed Weza and attempted to snatch a torch strapped to his head.
During the scuffle, one of the assailants reportedly stabbed him in the thigh with a knife before all five fled the scene.
“Weza’s wife rushed to make a police report. The victim was later found dead with a deep stab wound on his thigh,” said Insp Mahoko.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the incident and is appealing for public assistance to apprehend the suspects.
“We urge anyone with information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station,” Mahoko said.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
