SHURUGWI-A-16-year-old Shurugwi boy died after allegedly jumping from a moving vehicle and sustaining serious head injuries along the Shurugwi-Unki road, police said.
Silas Choga of Makwikwi Cooperative died on Sunday night, a day after the incident, according to Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
Mahoko said the incident occurred on Saturday at about 1pm when Robson Ncube (42), of Hanke Mission, was driving a Nissan Caravan along the Shurugwi-Unki road.
“On approaching a speed hump, the driver slowed down and the now deceased, who was coming from school, jumped onto the vehicle and clung to its rear bumper,” Mahoko said.
He said Choga later jumped off the moving vehicle near the 55-kilometre peg and fell headlong onto the tarmac, sustaining facial injuries.
“He was taken home by his father, but his condition deteriorated the following day and he died at about 9pm,” Mahoko said.
Police urged members of the public to avoid activities that put their lives at risk and called on motorists to remain vigilant and watch out for children when driving.
