SHURUGWI – The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old Shurugwi man for the murder of his fellow artisanal miner over a plate of sadza.
According to the Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred on May 9, 2025, at around 11 pm at Dollar Farm in Shurugwi.
The suspect, Nicholas Matanda of Village Mazivise under Chief Nhema, allegedly stabbed Tanaka Sithole (26) of Village Musapingura under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge, during a dispute over the sharing of sadza.
Sithole was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on May 11, 2025 at around 4 am.
Insp Mahoko said Matanda withdrew an Okapi knife and stabbed Sithole in the armpit before fleeing the scene.
Police later arrested Matanda, and he is expected to appear in court soon.
The police have appealed to the members of the public to respect human life and avoid unnecessary disputes.
