Shurugwi man jailed 25yrs for bluetooth speaker murder

GWERU- High Court Judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi has sentenced Tatenda Hove (24) 25- year jail term for fatally stabbing Pardon Vengai (22) following a misunderstanding over a bluetooth speaker.

The sentence was handed down during the High Court circuit session in Gweru recently.

According to court records, on 6 November, 2024 at around 2130hrs at Danga Bar, Chachacha in Shurugwi, Vengai was drinking beer with other patrons, his brother Prince and Tawanda Manuwere while playing music on a bluetooth speaker.

Hove who was accompanied by Tapiwa Chitenga who is still at large arrived and forcibly took the speaker. When Vengai attempted to claim his speaker, he was stabbed multiple times with an okapi knife by Chitenga.

The pair exited the bar with the speaker and Vengai followed asking for his speaker.

A confrontation ensued and Hove drew a Colombia knife which he used to stab Vengai in the back as he attempted to run away.

Vengai collapsed after running a short distance. He was rushed to Zvamavonde Clinic then transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he died on November 6, 2024. Hove was arrested the following day.
