Gweru – TelOne has donated 30 warm-up t-shirts to the Mkoba based Pathfinder Volleyball Academy, a community development initiative established by Hugh Mangeya to uplift marginalized and vulnerable children and youth.
Mangeya confirmed the development to Midweek Watch, expressing his gratitude.
“We are immensely thankful for TelOne’s support. This donation will greatly enhance our players’ confidence and performance in upcoming competitions. While some may perceive it as a small gesture, to us, it is a substantial contribution that will uplift our team,” said Mangeya.
The academy, now comprising 37 boys and girls, has made impressive strides in the volleyball arena.
It has become affiliated with the Midlands Volleyball Association (MidVA) league, engaging in two matches for both boys and girls teams.
Despite facing financial constraints, the academy has demonstrated promise, with the boys’ team secured a remarkable 3-0 victory against the Gweru City Volleyball Club in their inaugural match.
The girls’ team, predominantly consisting of grade 7 students, displayed resilience against opponents from Mkoba Teachers College and MSU Cobras, although they narrowly lost both matches 3-0.
The academy has established a structured governance framework, incorporating youth leaders and experienced advisors, such as a former national team coach for men’s and women’s volleyball.
