Romance murderer Dube insanity plea thrown out

GWERU-Peter Dube’s attempt to feign mental illness during his appearance at the Gweru Circuit High Court has been thwarted after two doctors certified that he is mentally fit to stand trial.
Dube, who has been accused of double murder and two attempted murder charges, persisted with his antics to portray himself as mentally ill by whistling in courtroom on Friday.
However, Justice Munamato Mutevedzi has warned Dube that his case will proceed as planned, from September 23 to 27, as the medical experts concluded that he is mentally stable.
According to the state’s case, on April 22, 2021, Dube allegedly shot and killed Shelton Chiduku and Gamuchirai Mudungwe at the Benson Flats in Gweru.
Dube is said to have accused Chiduku of being in a romantic relationship with his wife (Nyasha Nharingo) and Mudungwe of helping his wife find a boyfriend.
Following the double killing, Dube allegedly targeted Nyasha Nharingo, shooting her in the cheek, causing bullet wounds on her neck and a black eye consistent with a base of skull fracture.
He then turned his gun towards Nyaradzo Nharingo, hitting her above the right ear, before fleeing the scene.
Post-mortem reports revealed that Chiduku’s death resulted from acute anemia, cardiac and pulmonary lacerations, and a gunshot wound, while Mudungwe succumbed to brain damage, multiple skull fractures, a gunshot wound, and assault.
Dube was arrested at Robert Mugabe Airport by the CID Homicide in Harare after being deported from Mozambique.
He was subsequently transferred to Gweru Central Police for further legal proceedings.
Midlands Provincial Prosecutor, Samuel Pedzisayi, appeared for the state.
