GWERU-The Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association chairperson, Phineas Makombe has announced that a revolving empowerment fund will support all children of war veterans at the grassroots level, specifically targeting those with viable projects.

Makombe emphasized that the association will adhere to all necessary processes to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of the funds, which total $500,000 provided by the government to initiate these projects as a way of empowering the liberation veterans’ children.
“We are currently registering war veterans’ children. Our goal is to implement a bottom-up approach for the distribution of the funds,” Makombe told journalists in Gweru yesterday.
“We will begin the vetting process with individuals who present viable project proposals, allowing them to return the seed money for others to benefit.”
According to Makombe, the launch of the Presidential empowerment scheme has created new opportunities for the children of liberation fighters.
He added that the government has also pledged additional support, including tractors and other empowerment packages.
However, he stressed that accountability in the use of these funds is crucial.
“How we utilize this first batch is very critical going forward,” he said.
The association plans to prioritize funding for those with viable projects, with the association’s provincial chairpersons leading the process.
Makombe reiterated that the target is a bottom-up approach, prioritizing those who can demonstrate the sustainability of their projects.
