MIDWEEK REPORTER
TANGANDA-A reckless, heartless driver allegedly caused a fatal road accident when he did not deep his headlights upon parking his vehicle in the highway blinding other motorists along Tanganda-Ngundu Road recently.
Manicaland Province police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Emmanuel Sithole (57) of Gaza in Chipinge was driving a Toyota Hilux GD6 with South African number plates and eight passengers on board.
Sithole rammed into a parked Toyota Probox at a lay by with four people on board while the headlights were beamed severely affecting the visibility of other road users.
The Probox was being driven by Johannes Chitungwiza (48) of Phase 3 Checheche in Chpinge.
One passenger seated in the front seat of the GD6, Henry Komozana (53) of Dambamuromo Village under Chief Musikavanhu died on the spot while 13 others were injured.
Henry’s body was taken to Birchenough Hospital together with injured passengers while others were taken to Chipinge District Hospital.
Chinyoka said the accident was caused by the Probox which had its headlights beaming and blinded the GD6 driver resulting in him ramming into the stationery vehicle.
The front passenger seated in the GD6 was thrown out of the car and died on the spot.
The vehicles were taken to the Vehicle Examination Department in Chipinge.
Chinyoka advised drivers to always deep their lights when they park their cars or approaching another vehicle in order to avoid accidents.
The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe has also been on the record urging motorists to always consider other road users by deeping their headlights or stop using spotlights altogether as they cause blindness on other road users.
