HARARE: A Harare Regional Magistrate has sentenced a 26-year- old female private teacher to 15 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting her 10-year-old pupil.
In its news bulletion, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the convicted offender sexually assaulted the minor on numerous occasions between August and October 2025 in Botswana and Harare.
“The offender sexually assaulted the minor on multiple occasions between August and October 2025, with incidents occurring in Gaborone, Botswana and in Borrowdale, Harare,” reads the bulletin.
The offender used to call the victim, ordering her to undress and inserting her fingers into the private parts of the victim.
“The offender would call the victim ordering her to remove her clothes and inserting her fingers into the victim’s privates,” the bulletin reads.
The victim would cover up her offence by threatening the victim with violence.
The matter came to light when the victim’s mother noticed her difficulty walking.
In another incident, a 33-year-old man from Epworth was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the rape of his 8-year-old niece who is a grade two pupil at a local school.
In 2024, the convicted man entered the kitchen around 2100 hours where the victim was sleeping and got into her blankets, undressed and raped her.
“Circumstances are that sometime in 2024, at around 2100 hours, the victim was sleeping in the kitchen when the offender came in to have supper. He sneaked into the victim’s blankets, removed her clothes and raped her,” the NPA said.
On the 2nd of February 2025, the victim started showing unusual behaviour such as sneaking into her brother’s blankets and removing her clothes, prompting her father and aunt to question her and she told them she learnt it from the offender who once raped her.
The NPA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of rape face the full force of justice.
