Police in Manicaland are appealing on information leading to the arrest of a suspect who stoned to death a popular Sakubva tout, while in the company of his girlfriend.
Manicaland Acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Simbarashe Nyambuya (33) was spotted in the CBD at around 2000hrs in the company of his girlfriend (name withheld) and bought alcohol at Beer Engine along Second Street.
“The deceased bought a black label quart, as he was coming out of the bar an unknown accused person hit the deceased with a stone on the forehead and he fell to the ground on his back. The unknown accused person ran away unnoticed leaving the deceased lying helpless,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
It is alleged that the deceased’s girlfriend sought help from an unknown taxi driver who took Nyambuya to Victoria Chitepo provincial hospital, where he was admitted after a report was made at ZRP Mutare Central police station.
Last Saturday, Ass Insp Chinyoka said that Nyambuya was discharged from hospital but his condition deteriorated and on Thursday he passed on while at his home.
His body was taken to Victoria Chitepo hospital for postmortem and investigations are in progress.
