Police gun down 6 armed robbers

BULAWAYO- Six suspected armed robbers have succumbed to gun shot injuries following a shoot-out incident along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway this Tuesday with police.

The six suspected armed robbers died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

In a statement, the ZRP confirms the shoot-out incident after the suspected robbers ransacked a shop in Insuza.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a shoot-out incident with six armed robbery suspects along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls tollgate on 18th March 2025 between 2am and 4am,” said ZRP.

On Monday, the 17th of March 2025, the now deceased armed robbers spend whole day monitoring and imbibing beer at Young Money General’s Dealer Shop in Insuza before pouncing on two complainants who were manning the shop.

“The suspects spent the whole day monitoring and drinking beer in the complainant’s Young Money General’s Dealer shop, Insuza. They later pounced on the two complainants while armed with pistols, knives and axes.

“The suspects went on to tie the hands of the complainants with electric cables before covering their faces with blankets. They demanded cash and gold,” reads the statement.

They took away unknown amount of money and loaded groceries, 48 volts lithium battery, inverter, amplifier, 9kg gas tank and cellphones into their getaway silver Honda Fit vehicle, registration number AEY 4843 and fled.

One of the complainants alerted their employer who swiftly made a police report.

Police later spotted the Honda Fit heading towards the toll gate and ordered the suspects to stop and the latter fired shots towards the police leading to a shoot-out.

“A check along Victoria Falls Road spotted the Honda Fit vehicle as it was moving towards the toll gate. Detectives ordered the suspects to stop. Instead the suspects fired shots towards the Police officers leading to a shoot-out.

“The suspects went on to hit the boom gate. They were arrested and taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals where they all unfortunately passed on,” further reads the statement.

Two pistols with four live rounds, two gas operated pistols, two knives, an axe, groceries, lithium battery, inverter, amplifier, and 9kg gas tank were recovered from the vehicle.
