KWEKWE – A 25-year-old man drowned while attempting to cross the flooded river in pursuit of a Kudu in the Morena Game Ranch in Kwekwe last Friday.

The Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred on February 14, 2023, around 10 p.m.

Insp Mahoko said the victim, identified as Severino Kufahandiuyi, was with three friends who were illegally hunting a kudu in the game ranch.

“It was established that the now deceased Severino Kufahandiuyi (25) and his three friends were poaching in Morena Game Ranch.

“They spotted a kudu and they chased after it until it crossed a flooded Matura River. They attempted to cross the river in hot pursuit and in the process, Kufahandiuyi was swept away,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said after the incident, police was called to the scene and retrieved Kufahandiuyi’s body, which was then taken to the Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Insp Mahoko warned members of the public against crossing flooded rivers.
