MASVINGO – Masvingo Provincial Education Director’s (PED) health and wellness tournament dates for the district and provincial finals have been set for today and March 27 respectively at Mucheke Stadium.
The dates were confirmed by the Provincial Inspector in-charge of Physical Education and Culture Frederick Matavikwa yesterday.
Matavikwa said the tournament will run under the theme ‘THE PED’s HEALTH AND WELLNESS TOURNAMENT’.
The tournament that consists of football and netball games knockouts will be held on 17 March, 2023 in each and every district in the province and the final matches are to be done on 27 March, 2023 at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo.
Matavikwa told The Midweek Watch that the tournament was muted after there were rising cases of bullying, drug and substance abuse at most schools across the Province and beyond.
“The PED and her council are convinced that there is urgent need to add a voice in the fight against bullying, drug and substances abuses through a tournament dubbed ‘THE PED’s HEALTH AND WELLNESS TOURNAMENT”.
“The tournament’s anti bullying and drug abuse message targets all primary and secondary pupils in the province and beyond and soccer and netball teams are drawn from seven districts,” said Matavikwa.
The statement went on to say that the Directorate supported by staff associations, stakeholders and general public has taken it upon themselves to improve teachers, pupils and community health and well-being by adopting non-medical solutions to common health challenges hence this tournament.
In Masvingo District there 6 schools that are going to lock horn in the knockout phase which are Victoria High School, Ndarama High School, Gokomere High School, Masvingo Christian School, Zimuto High School and Mutendi High School.
Gutu District there is Rufaro High School, Sandon Academy, Mutero High School, Gutu High School, Dewure High School and Serima High School, Chivi District has Chibi High School, Shongamiti High School, Ngundu High School and Berejena High School.
In Zaka District there is Zaka High School, Chinorumba High School, Rudhanda High School, Jichidza High School, St Joseph High School and St Athony’s High School and Bikita District there Silveira High School, Gwindingwi High School, Mashoko High School and Pamushana High School.
Chiredzi District has Chiredzi High School, Terry Goss High School, Chiredzi Christian School and Mufakose High School and Mwenezi District has Nikita High School, Hebron High School, G and N High School and Mwenezi High School.
