Liberty Muchekayawa, born 35 years ago is proving to be a force to reckon with in the world of sports and education.

As the youngest of four boys, Muchekayawa’s journey is marked by a passion for sports, teaching, and community development.

“Growing up in a sports-oriented family and environment made my love for sports inevitable,” says Muchekayawa.

After graduating from Mutare Teacher’s College, he is currently teaching Physical Education, Sports, and Mass Displays at Muzirikazi Secondary School in Buhera District, Manicaland Province.

Muchekayawa’s sports administration skills were honed through a certificate program in Gwanda (2018) and a National Level 1 Boxing Coaching certificate in Chinhoyi (2023) conducted by Emmanuel Fernandez, a certified boxing coach from South Africa.

He also holds a Boxing-R-J certificate obtained in September 2024 at Mucheke Hall through Zimbabwe Boxing Federation.

Muchekayawa’s true passion lies in coaching soccer, which he believes fosters teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie.

“Team sports create a community of friends,” he says.

By emphasizing fun, skill development, and constructive feedback, he inspires students to develop love for sports.

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) defines sport as a means to engage children in activities that help them develop physically, socially, and mentally. UNICEF believes that sport can have a positive impact on children and adolescents in many ways, including:

•      Physical and mental health

Sport can help children build strength, boost confidence, and improve their health.

•      Social inclusion

Sport can help children feel a sense of belonging and community. It can also help children learn to cooperate, respect others, and manage victory and defeat.

This is in line with Muchekayawa’s firm belief that sports programs support academic achievement and athletes’ well-being.

“Sports teach self-discipline, time management, decision-making, and boost confidence and self-esteem,” he explains.

Sports also promote stress relief, improve attendance, and foster relationships.

Married and a proud father to daughter Kimberly, Muchekayawa’s favorite athlete is Sadio Mane, who inspires him with his humility, kindness, and physical prowess.

He was born and bred in Zaka and went to Rumwanda for his secondary education.

At school his favourite sport was soccer and he played in school team.

As the secretary-general of Active Fusion Academy, Muchekayawa is committed to driving the academy to excellence, uplifting youths, and helping them reach their full potential.

Muchekayawa embodies the spirit of dedication, passion, and community service.

Through his teaching, coaching, and administrative roles, he continues to inspire and shape the lives of young athletes, empowering them to become confident, disciplined, and well-rounded individuals.
