PAP head, Chief Charumibira meets Niger President

MIDWEEK REPORTER

Pan African Parliament (PAP) President, Chief Fortune Charumbira held a meeting with Niger President, Mohamed Bazoum in Niamey to exchange notes and discuss issues to do with the African Union organ.

Chief Charumbira met the Niger leader as part of his efforts to make sure the AU organ has legislative power to effect transformative change in Africa and help to effectively end perennial wars that bedevil the huge continent.

PAP, since June 2022 when Chief Charumbira assumed its leadership has been tirelessly working to come out of a shell and become a truly representative body of the African people.

Chief Charumbira aims to make PAP an effective organ of the AU which offers solutions to many challenges that the African people face which range from under development, poverty, wars and technology.

Chief Charumbira represents a new breed of leadership that is keen to see Africa at the forefront of solving her own problems as witnessed by his recent peace initiative across the continent.

He recently held a meeting with the AU Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he empasised the need for peace across the continent especially in Sudan where the conflict has left hundreds of thousands homeless and thousands of civilians dead.

Unfortunately, it is because of the continent’s vast resources that are causing some of the conflicts that date back to the time of independence like in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is in light of this that the PAP President held a one on one engagement with the Niger President as he leaves no stone unturned in his quest to ensure that PAP plays a pivotal role as the centre of legislative power on the continent.

A statement from Chief Charumbira’s office says the meeting between Chief Charumbira and President Bazoum fits in the frame of the PAP reinvigoration drive.

“The two men (Niger’s President Bazoum and Chief Charumbira) discussed the state of affairs at the Pan-African Parliament with a focus on how the political leaders elected in June 2022 have successfully renewed and reinvigorated the continental parliament,” said the statement.

“The President of PAP also outlined the support required by the parliament to become more effective in delivering on its mandate.”

President Bazoum is a former member of PAP and served the continental legislative body alongside Chief Charumbira.

The Niger leader hailed Chief Charumbira for his leadership style which has seen PAP occupying its rightful place on the continent.

Chief Charumbira was accompanied on his Niger jaunt by PAP third Vice President Lucia Dos Passos together with a delegation of Niger MPs at PAP.
