MASVINGO- Blessed Chamisa of Rujeko B Masvingo has been convicted for blowing $2 500 belonging to his employer, Old Mutual Digital Services Pvt Ltd operating as O’Mari on betting-chindege.
Chamisa has been sentenced to 6 months after he misused company funds meant for cash-in and cash-out transactions and fabricated a robbery report to cover up the offence.
He appeared before Magistrate Nyirenda on May 18 facing charges of theft and filing a false robbery report.
The court heard that Chamisa worked as an Accounts Clerk at the O’Mari booth stationed at Exormart Garage in Masvingo.
Prosecutor Romeo Zibani told the court that on May 12, 2026, Chamisa received US$2 000 from the complainant, Old Mutual Digital Services Pvt Ltd which was added to a previous balance of US$500, making a total float of US$2 500 for business transactions.
On May 13, 2026, Chamisa reported at ZRP Rujeko that he had been kidnapped and robbed of US$2 900 while travelling to the O’Mari Masvingo main branch.
He claimed that he had boarded a Honda Fit vehicle carrying four occupants who later kidnapped him and dumped him at Ngundu Business Centre after robbing him.
However, investigations carried out by the police revealed that the robbery report was false.
The court heard that from February to May 2026, Chamisa had allegedly been taking money received as daily float from the complainant and using it for Aviator betting at Mwos Betting House in Masvingo.
Following investigations, he was arrested and charged accordingly.
Chamisa pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was represented by lawyer Omen Mafa.
Magistrate Nyirenda sentenced him to six months imprisonment wholly suspended on condition that he restitutes the complainant the sum of US$2 500.
