NYANGA-Revai Guri (38) of Village 7, Chivhenga under Chief Makoni in Rusape is on the run for allegedly murdering his co worker with an axe handle, Joao Antonio Pungurai (23) of Block O Manica, Chimoio in Mozambique on Independence’s eve.

Manicaland province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka.

The cold blooded murder happened at a farm belonging to Alec Nyamugafata (57) of Nyapundo Village under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga at around 9pm where the two worked as general hands.

Thulani Nyamugafata who was coming from Nyapundo Business Centre where he was watching soccer arrived home at around 9pm and found Joao groaning in pain while bleeding from the forehead in the kitchen bedroom which the two shared.

Thulani rushed to inform his mother, Martha Nyamaropa (45) who was asleep in her bedroom who told her husband, Alec on the phone as he was not home.

When mother and son went back to the kitchen bedroom they found out that Joao was no longer groaning as he had died.

Alec went straight to report the matter to ZRP Bende Base who took the blood soaked body to Nyanga Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

It was also discovered that the accused, Revai had taken his belongings from the kitchen bedroom and disappeared into the night soon after committing the heinous crime.

According to Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka the two had a misunderstanding on April 11 over a cigarette lighter (gwenya) which belonged to Revai.

Revai accused Joao of tempering with the lighter which was no longer working and the two had a fall out over the matter until Martha had to intervene and the two made peace.

On the fateful day Martha, Revai and Joao had supper together before they all retired to bed peacefully only for the son to discover that the other co worker had been butchered by the accused who is at large.

Chinyoka said anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Revai should approach the nearest police station.
