Mutare-Has Manica Diamonds FC finally turned the corner? This is the question on many Gem Boys’ fans following their convincing 3-1 victory over new boys Agama FC.

After weeks of frustration and disappointing results, Manica Diamonds FC finally found a reason to smile after securing their first win of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season with a convincing 3-1 victory over fellow struggling side Agama FC at Sakubva Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the match under immense pressure, the Gems Boys knew nothing short of victory would satisfy their supporters, especially on their return to Sakubva Stadium following weeks away from their traditional home ground. The atmosphere around the stadium reflected both anxiety and hope, with fans eager to witness a turnaround in fortunes for the Mutare-based outfit.

Manica Diamonds responded positively from the first whistle, showing greater urgency, composure, and attacking intent compared to previous matches. Their midfield controlled the tempo while the forwards continuously troubled the Agama defence throughout the afternoon.

The breakthrough eventually arrived as the hosts began to dominate proceedings, with Rassel Kahiki opening the scoring before Farai Banda and Marlon Maziriri added their names to the scoresheet to complete an important victory for the Gem Boys.

The win could prove to be a turning point for Manica Diamonds, who have endured a difficult start to the campaign despite high expectations at the beginning of the season. The three points lifted the team to five points on the log standings, while Agama remain anchored at the bottom with four points after another disappointing outing.

Speaking after the match, Manica Diamonds head coach Patrick Mandizha described the victory as a massive confidence booster for his side.

“This was a very important result for us. The players showed determination, discipline, and hunger throughout the game. We have been working hard despite the difficult circumstances and today the effort finally paid off,” said Mandizha.

“Playing again at Sakubva Stadium gave the players extra motivation because we wanted to make our supporters happy. This victory should give us confidence going forward and hopefully it marks the beginning of better performances.”

The coach also praised the fighting spirit shown by his squad, insisting the team still believes it can improve its position on the table as the season progresses.

For Agama, the defeat added more pressure on a side still searching for consistency in their debut top-flight campaign. Head coach Takaendesa Jongwe admitted his team struggled to cope with Manica Diamonds’ intensity and acknowledged the need for improvement.

“We did not play well today and we made costly mistakes. We have to go back and work on several areas because the league is very competitive,” Jongwe said.

“There is still a long way to go in the season, so we need to remain focused and continue fighting for better results.”

Despite the joy of finally securing maximum points, the celebrations within the Manica Diamonds camp were overshadowed by sadness following the passing of striker Fortune Binzi’s mother.

Manica Diamonds will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s encounter against Hunters FC at the same venue as they seek to build momentum and climb further away from the relegation zone.
