At the Ramsar COP15 conference in Victoria Falls, NetOne Telecommunications took a groundbreaking step towards environmental conservation by adopting the Declaration for Sustainable Wetland Conservation.

NetOne Group CEO Eng. Raphael Mushanawani at the COP15 summit.

The internet of things (IoT) enabled wetland sensors marked significant leap in the use of technology to protect the environment. Thee cutting-edge sensors are designed to transform real-time data into early warning systems, providing critical tools to mitigate the challenges posed by climate change and safeguarding vulnerable wetland ecosystems.

“It is a profound privilege to address this Youth Welcome Dinner- a pivotal moment, hosted in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. At NetOne we have chosen to respond not with slogans- but with solutions. Through IoT enabled wetland sensors, we are turning data into early warning systems- because if nature sends signals, we must learn to listen. Through our OneConnect infrastructure, we are empowering cross-border collaborations, scientific networks and policy interventions- because climate has no passport and wetlands know no boundaries,” said Eng Raphael Mushanawani.

The telecommunications boss highlighted that his company expressed pride in hosting the Youth Welcome Dinner in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, EMA and the Ramsar National Youth Steering Committee. He highlighted the importance of building bridges across generations, borders and ecosystems under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, whose National Development Strategy 1 prioritized climate resilience, youth inclusion and environmental justice.

As the Victoria Falls Declaration for Sustainable Wetland Conservation was adopted, Eng Mushanawani reminded delegates that wetlands were watching and history was listening.

NetOne has responded with solutions including IoT enabled wetland sensors for early warning systems and One Connect Infrastructure for cross-border collaborations. The e-sim cards distributed to delegates symbolized a digital pledge to connect better, conserve deeper and innovate smarter.
