CHIVHU-In a bold move to combat the rising threat of drug and substance abuse, NetOne recently launched a comprehensive initiative that leverages technology and sport to safeguard Zimbabwe’s youth.

The Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Sports Gala, held at Garwe stadium in Chikomba West, showcased the power of collaboration and innovation in tackling this national crisis.
NetOne’s involvement goes beyond mere sponsorship, as the company has embedded itself as the key player in the fight against substance abuse. By harnessing its vast network, mobile platforms and social media presence, NetOne has distributed educational content, shared real-life stories and inspired behavioural change among young people.
Group Chief Executive Officer Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, emphasized the importance of using technology to empower and educate the youth.
“Connectivity alone is not enough. Towers, fibre, broadband- must become channels of empowerment, education and awareness. Our networks must serve as lines of defence, keeping young people informed, inspired and engaged,” he said.
The initiative is part of NetOne’s broader commitment to health, education and empowerment. By combining sport, ICT and community engagement, NetOne is delivering a holistic intervention that touches the minds, bodies and environments of young people.
The Chikomba West event was a testament to the power of unity and innovation in tackling substance abuse. NetOne’s efforts are a beacon of hope for Zimbabwe’s youth, demonstrating that a connected and empowered youth is far harder to destroy. Through its digital footprint, the mobile company is proving that technology can be a powerful tool in the fight against substance abuse.
