 NetOne loses solar batteries worth US$13k to robbers

RUSAPE- Four armed robbers on Tuesday pounced on NetOne solar field at Muchekeranwa Dam Wall and got away with solar panels and batteries worth US$12 560.

Manicaland Provincial Police deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident that happened on September 26 at 1930 hours.

The four armed robbers disembarked from an unidentified vehicle and approached the security guard on duty, Konorai Mubvumi (58).

One of the robbers pointed a riffle at Mubvumi, ordered him to lay down and threatened to kill him if he shouted for help.

The robbers tied his hands and legs using his shoe laces before dragging him to the guard room where they covered his face with a blanket.

They took his Itel mobile phone, 12 by 410w solar panels and 6 by 100 lithium batteries.

The four loaded the goods in their vehicle before driving away at high speed.

Mubvumi managed to untie himself and fled to the nearby village where he was assisted with a mobile phone. He alerted his superiors. The matter was reported at Headlands Police Station.

Ass Insp Chinyoka said the total value for the goods stolen is US$12 560 and nothing was recovered.

He said investigations are in progress.

He also urged members of the public who may have information leading to the arrest of the four to report to any nearby Police Station.
