GWERU-The Government has intensified efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery system through investment in the welfare of workers, with the Health Service Commission and the Ministry of Health and Child Care set to host the country’s inaugural Public Health Sector Wellness Festival next week.

The national event, scheduled for July 6 to 10 at Midlands State University, brings together healthcare professionals from across Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces, central hospitals and public-private sector stakeholders under the theme “Stronger Together, Healthier Together.”

The initiative forms part of Government’s broader Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 2 agenda, which prioritises building a resilient, productive and motivated public health workforce.

The festival is expected to provide healthcare professionals with mental health support, burnout prevention training, sports and recreational activities, financial wellness programmes and team-building exercises aimed at enhancing productivity and improving service delivery.

In a move that broadens the programme’s impact beyond health workers, members of the public will also benefit from free health services during the five day event.

These include cervical and breast cancer screening, blood pressure and diabetes testing, HIV testing and counselling, general wellness assessments and health education promoting healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.

First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, through her Angel of Hope Foundation, will support the programme by availing modern screening equipment to enhance access to preventive healthcare services.

Health and Child Care Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora and Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube are expected to officiate at the event.

A health and wellness exhibition will run concurrently, bringing together pharmaceutical companies, medical aid societies, financial institutions and development partners to showcase innovations and strengthen partnerships supporting the modernisation of Zimbabwe’s health sector.
