Mwenezi’s rising volleyball sensation, Patience Mugwagwa has etched her name among Zimbabwe’s finest university athletes after helping the national women’s team clinch gold at the Council of Southern Africa Universities Sports Association (CUSA) games.

The games were held in Gaborone, Botswana, from June 28 to July 5.
The prestigious biennial tournament, which brings together top university athletes from across Southern Africa, saw Zimbabwe produce a commanding performance to emerge champions. The Zimbabwean women finished ahead of Angola, who claimed silver, while Zambia settled for bronze.
The men’s volleyball team also completed a memorable campaign by winning gold, finishing ahead of Zambia and hosts Botswana to underline the country’s dominance at the regional showcase.
Mugwagwa, 22, is a student at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), where she combines her studies with Work-Related Learning while starring for the university’s volleyball team. Her latest triumph adds to an impressive sporting journey, having also represented Zimbabwe at the Zone VI Games in Polokwane, South Africa, last year.
Speaking after her latest success, the soft-spoken athlete revealed the passion that fuels her career.
“There are only three things I love in life — volleyball, volleyball and volleyball. Every time I step onto the court, I play to make my mother proud because she has stood by me from day one. I will continue working hard to raise Zimbabwe’s flag high wherever I compete,” said Mugwagwa.
Her heartfelt words reflect the dedication and humility that have become hallmarks of her career, as well as the strong family support that has inspired her rise through the ranks.

For Mwenezi District, Mugwagwa’s achievement is a source of immense pride and further proof that the district continues to produce athletes capable of excelling on the international stage. Her success is expected to inspire a new generation of young sportsmen and women to pursue their dreams through discipline, perseverance and hard work.
With age still on her side and an unwavering commitment to the game she loves most, Mugwagwa appears destined for even greater heights as she continues to represent both Zimbabwe and her home district of Mwenezi with distinction.
