HILBRA ECD CENTRE in Rutenga Growth Point defied the odds by competing in the Dzidzo Inhaka 2024 Cosci E-Sports Tournament that was held on the 9th of March at ZIMSEC HTD Auditorium in Harare.
The rising ECD CENTRE locked horns with 12 other ECDs drawn from across the nation.
The competitions which pitted the kindergartens was a tussle for speedy and accuracy when using the computer, ability to handle the mouse or the touch pad in order to complete given tasks.
Hand to eye coordination as a key technique when making use of computers was also under the spotlight.
The Rutenga Growth point based academic outfit’s computer team which is coached by the veteran computer guru, Brighton Dzihwena was represented by Adornia Mahlanya(5) who scooped a gold medal while Ashley Muhambo(5) and Kyle Takaya (4) lost in the finals.
Hildah Muzenda, co-director of Hilbra was on cloud nine as she shared the news of their milestone achievement with The Midweek Watch.
“Our young pupils have done us proud by leaving a mark at this prestigious competition. We are motivated to do more since this was our first time to compete at this level”.
The use of information and communication Technology (ICT) is now at the center of teaching and learning as it is now the vehicle of education. Equipping pupils with computer skills at an early age sinks and swims with the old adage “catch them young”.
As such, Hilbra deserves a pat on the back for putting into practice a Ministerial policy which to many only exist on paper, as most pupils are just exposed to theory without practice .
This has culminated into the technological divide which has seen many schools in urban areas affording the use of ICT gadgets while many rural schools have been left out due to lack of resources and energy to power the gadgets.
Hilbra first opened its doors in 2022 with just 16 pupils and it is found at Stand number 2974 Rutenga in a suburb popularly known as “Kumhiri kwenjanji”.
The center is slowly becoming the place to be as it now boasts of 46 learners. With the determination which the school has displayed by rubbing shoulders with the greats in this technological competition, there is no doubt that the centre is destined for greater heights.
