MASVINGO- In a bizarre incident that left villagers in Mwenezi dumfounded, Revesai Magare (50) butchered her child to death before trying to kill herself.
Magare of Miraga Village under Chief Maranda who is epileptic killed her son Wiseman Matutu (5) in cold blood by chopping off his head and neck using an axe.
Masvingo Provincial police spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the sad event and said the woman is in serious condition and admitted Neshuro Hospital under police guard as she is facing murder charges.
On June 09, Magare was sleeping in her room with her son Matutu when she took an axe and cut her son into pieces.
She covered him using a blanket and then started cutting her neck in an attempt to kill herself.
The following morning Magare’s elder sister and brother Ophius and Dhadhe Magare came to check on their sister whom they found sleeping in a pool of blood and they woke
She pointed to a heap of blankets where she had concealed her child’s body and when they asked her why she killed her son, she said she was tired of life and wanted to end her life to end the suffering.
Dhadhe went on to report the case at Mwenezi police base who attended the scene.
A murder case was opened against Magare who was taken to Neshuro Hospital for treatment while her son awaits post mortem at the same hospital.
