Muvheyi off the hook
Midweek Watch Reporter
Masvingo -Calvin Muvheyi, a student leader, activist and journalist, has been acquitted of charges of inciting violence through a WhatsApp message to a group in the run up to SADC summit.
Muheyi had been arrested soon after setting his foot in Zimbabwe from South Africa to pay lobola for his sweetheart.
Magistrate Nomagugu Sibanda delivered the verdict on Friday last week at Masvingo Court.
Muvheyi spent 18 days in remand prison and was freed at the High Court after his lawyer former City of Masvingo Mayor, Advocate Collen Maboke had approached the superior court.
Maboke successfully argued that being part of a WhatsApp group is not an offense and the alleged message was not inflammatory and did not originate from the accused.
Godfrey Mugondwa represented the state in this case.
