Mushandike man (20) jailed for raping granny (70)

MASVINGO- A 20 – year -old man from Village 20, Mushandike under Chief Charumbira has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping a 70 year old grandmother.

Courage Chinyaure (20) appeared before the Masvingo Regional Magistrate Innocent Bepura facing charges of rape.

According to court details, on the 20th of June, 2025 in Village 20 ,Mushandike, the complainant who stays alone retired for bed in her room after eating supper.

At around 0100hrs, Chinyaure went to the complainant’s homestead and forcibly opened the door which was secured by a grinding stone from inside.

The complainant sensed danger and hid behind a pile of blankets which were near the wall.

The accused person looked around and found the victim and advanced towards her.

He put his arms around the complainant and pulled her outside.

Whilst out of the house, the complainant managed to free herself and ran into a nearby maize field screaming for help but no one came.

The accused person caught up with the complainant and pushed her to the ground.  He then sat on her lap and pulled the victim’s dress up and moved her panties aside before raping her once.

After the incident, the accused person remained at the spot with complainant for a while and complainant pleaded with him to get back into the house because she was feeling cold.

Accused person agreed and they went into the complainant’s room whereupon arrival, accused slept on the bed.

The accused fell asleep and the complainant managed to escape and informed neighbours.

She returned and found the accused still in the room but he managed to escape through the window leaving his left shoe.

The matter was reported to police leading to the arrest of the offender.
