MASVINGO – Operations at Murowa Diamonds in the Midlands province have come to a standstill, as mine workers stage a week-long demonstration over five months of unpaid wages.
The workers are accusing the company of deteriorating working conditions, and alleged corruption within its management.
The workers say they were recently offered just 35% of one month’s salary, a deal which they have rejected due to the lack of a clear plan to settle outstanding arrears.
The union wants urgent government intervention and is pushing for Murowa to be placed under Corporate Rescue, citing deep-rooted corruption and looming collapse of the diamond miner.
