Msv long distance runner seeks US$300 for Kazungula Marathon

MASVINGO CITY-Veteran Masvingo City based long distance runner Morelife Mutsvedu (28) is seeking for US$300 for him to cover costs of participating in the forthcoming prestigious FNB Kazungula Bridge Marathon to be held in Botswana on February 24.

 The FNB marathon will see participants converging from across the Continent for the annual event.

The FNB Kazungula Bridge Marathon is an open annual event that takes place in Botswana with runners taking part in the 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km categories those from position 1 to 10 walking away with monetary prizes.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch, Mutsvedu said he is scheduled to attend the Activation race to be held on February 03  in preparation for the main event on the 24.

He also said he has another line up in South Africa where he is supposed to compete in Comrade Marathon which is to be held in Durban on a date to be announced in June 2024.

“As of now I have two competitions lined up. The first one is the FNB Kazungula Bridge Marathon race on the February 24. However, I am supposed to first attend the Activation Race on February 03.

 “It’s not compulsory, but it is important for acclimatization purposes. Then the official event will be on the 24 which I must I attend, failing to attend means I will be disqualified.

 “I have already registered and all the paper work and travelling documents are in place except I am not sure if I will be able to attend considering that right now the money for transport and my welfare which includes accommodation for at least three days.

“So far PSMAS have helped me with a US$100 and I am requesting the business community, entrepreneurs and Masvingo to assist me financially so that I can participate in this once in a lifetime event.

“It is my first time and a huge opportunity for me which I really need to be part of as I strongly feel I will be able to perform well,” said Mutsvedu.

The multi award winner has participated in the Old Mutual Vumba Marathon, Great Zimbabwe Run and  CIMAS Half Marathon in Bulawayo and his best time is 3m 6 seconds per kilometer.

Mutsvedu has more than 10 medals which he has collected from different races that he has participated in since 2021.
