MIDWEEK REPORTER
CHIVI GROWTH POINT-In a move that is the first of its kind in the arid district of Chivi, MP Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa has donated goodies to the prisoners at the satellite prison located at the sprawling growth point.

MP Mukungunugwa who is affectionately known as Chibababa Chedevelopment and also former Rural District Council Chairman is the legislator for Chivi North Constituency.
Chibaba donated blankets, plates, maize meal, fencing material for the project, buckets, paint, cooking oil, and other assorted goods for the prisoners housed at Chivi satellite prison with a maximum carrying capacity of 30 inmates.
“We were approached by the ZPCS team here and we went through their protocol at head office and today we have brought the goodies that we managed to get from our principal President E.D. Mnangagwa.

“Although their main request was for blankets we decided to go an extra mile by buying paint to spruce up the prison and fence for their agricultural income generating project in the district located in Chivi North among other things.
“The President says do not leave anyone behind including those incarcerated, they are going through some punishment for what they did wrong, but we should not abandon them, they are on a correctional path and they will join everyone else in society after rehabilitation.
“Do not hesitate to approach your leaders, the government and council if you need assistance, it is our duty to come to your rescue,” said MP Mukungunugwa at the handover ceremony held at Chivi RDC boardroom.
Chivi RDC chairman, Cllr Munashe Pwanyai paid tribute to the MP for the timely donation to the inmates.
“The MP has filled a very big gap in the district by remembering the inmates who are going through rehabilitation so that when they leave the correctional service they will easily gel into the society as they feel to be part of everyone.
“We are very grateful and wish that the gesture will continue as and when there is need. Despite being the MP for Chivi North, and the satellite prison is located in Chivi Central, that did not stop Mukungunugwa from giving a hand because the prison is in our district,” said Pwanyai.
Chivi satellite prison officer in charge, Gideon Chapo expressed gratitude to MP Mukungunugwa for the donation which he said will go a long in solving some of the challenges that they face at the station.
“We are very excited with the generous donation from our MP. We requested for blankets as you are aware that we are in winter and we were having challenges with blankets.
“The MP did not take time and here we are, receiving the blankets including some of the items that we did not request like plates, mealie meal, buckets, paint and many others that you are seeing here. He is a man of his word and leads by example,” said Chapo who was accompanied by the inmates including officers from ZPCS Harare who came to witness the event.
The ceremony was also attended by Chivi RDC Chief Executive Officer, Tariro Matavire, ward 2 Cllr Enos Chigombe, ward 5 Cllr Cleopas Magwizi, Chivi District Development Coordinator, Innocent Matingwina and several councillors and Zanu PF offficials.
