ZAKA- Masvingo Member of the National Assembly Tendeukai Matara has donated 150 chicks and 12 bags of starter pellets to survivors of the 2008 Zanu-PF political violence.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Matara said the generous act is aimed to empower the victims and help them improve their livelihoods through poultry farming.
“I have donated 150 chicks, feeds and feeding containers to three survivors of the 2008 Jerera petrol bombing namely Edson Gwenhure, Isaac Mbanje and Kudakwashe Tsumele who were badly burnt and cannot fend for their families.
“This gesture is mainly focusing on instilling confidence and a sense of belonging to the victims. It’s a small project but if managed well can help them to improve their livelihoods,” she said.
The victims thanked Matara for the kind gesture which they said will go a long way in alleviating their plight.
The Zaka 2008 petrol bombing was a violent attack on Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) activists by suspected Zanu PF members and soldiers who were clad in army fatigue.
The incident occurred on June 4, 2008 at the MDC offices which were situated at Jerera Growth Point.
Three MDC activists were killed including Crison Mbano and Washington Nyangwa while four others were initially reported missing.
The attack was part of a larger wave of violence perpetrated by suspected Zanu-PF members against MDC supporters in the run -up to the 2008 presidential election runoff which the late President Mugabe contested against himself after his fierce opponent, the late much loved Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew from the race over killings.
Mugabe went on to win the election with a landslide margin of 99.9% but failed to run the nation leading to a government of national unity.
