Mwenezi East Constituency is poised for economic prosperity, courtesy of projects being funded by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and MP Sheillah Chikomo.

MP Sheillah Chikomo.

The initiative aims to unlock the constituency’s economic potential by providing funds for projects in an effort to make them economically viable.

Women, youths and people living with disabilities are among the beneficiaries.

Chikomo has successfully disbursed funds for projects in four wards out of six during a trail of engagement meetings which saw the youthful legislator interfacing with the electorate.

Beneficiaries of the project funds have shown enthusiasm and zeal to prosper, with some already having started.

Residents of Ward 5, Dip Mpapa are setting the pace as evidenced by flourishing piggery, goat and chick rearing projects.

Councillor David Masvina of Ward 5 praised Chikomo’s efforts, stating that the initiative resonates with Vision 2030 and is a life-changing opportunity to the people of Mwenezi East.

“As a Constituency we are grateful to Hon Chikomo for coming up with this sustainable drive which seeks to build self reliance as we journey towards 2030” shared Councillor Masvina. Chairperson of the Dip Mpapa women’s League, Beauty Zireva echoed similar sentiments, highlighting how the funds have impacted their lives.

“Life will never be the same again; we are seeing the fruits of economic empowerment in our constituency. With the chick rearing project we are now going to raise school fees for our children and also meet other household financial needs which always call for our attention as women” shared Zireva.

Apart from injecting funds for projects Chikomo, had been donating food hampers to all the people in Mwenezi East in an effort to address the hunger challenge caused by the Elnino induced drought which saw many farmers’ efforts in the 2023-2024 season going to worst.

Chikomo reiterated her commitment to economically empower the people of Mwenezi East, emphasizing that her goal is to teach people how to fish, rather than just giving them fish.

“This initiative is meant to align the people of Mwenezi East Constituency with Vision 2030, production and food security are key tenets that facilitate the realization of Vision 2030,” explained Chikomo.
