MWENEZI-The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) disbursement for Mwenezi East which was largely channeled towards solarized boreholes across the constituency is proving to be a game changer as villagers now have clean portable water close by.

Solarised Sosonye borehole.

Seven boreholes were successfully drilled in the constituency courtesy of the CDF, targeting areas that previously experienced portable water scarcity, forcing villagers, especially women and girls to endure long distances in search of water and at times risking their lives.

The sites of the boreholes are Dip Mpapa (Ward 2), Chivumbulu Primary ( Ward 13), Sosonye Primary(Ward 15), Mariot Village( Ward18), Muzvagwa Village(Ward 14), Juneri Clinic site(Ward 5) and Batanai Primary (ward 2)

The initiative by Mwenezi East MP Sheillah Chikomo to prioritize water accessibility is meant to make the constituency portable water secure given the constituency’s background of low rainfall and lack of perennial water bodies.

The Sosonye solar powered borehole was the first to be installed on Friday 31 November bringing to an end decades of water challenges at Sosonye Primary which had actually hamstringed the development of the school.

MP Chikomo hinted that the boreholes were not just supposed to be seen as sources of safe drinking water but rather as engines for community development. “With a constant supply of water 24/7 a lot of projects can be done. I challenge the youth and women to venture into gardening and fish farming projects as they make money.” advised MP Chikomo who hailed the President for ensuring development at grassroots level by disbursing funds to Constituencies. “The Constituency Development Fund by HE President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is fulfilling the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind, as it targets development at grassroots level” added Chikomo.

Councillor of Ward 15, Timothy Magoche was on cloud nine as he hailed MP Chikomo for prioritizing water security in the constituency. “We are really proud about this development which will ensure water security in Mwenezi East, l salute our Hon Member of Parliament for ensuring a swift approach by bringing water to the people.” echoed Magoche.

Elizabeth Mashingaidze, chairperson of the Sosonye Primary School Development Committee, narrated the challenges which the school experienced due to poor access to water. “The unavailability of portable water was a barrier to the development of our school, this was even impacting on the registration of our school. More so, teachers and learners were walking long distances to water points, disrupting their precious teaching and learning time, in the end leading to poor results, but for now this is set to be a thing of the past.” said Mashingaidze.
