A 40-year-old man motorist, Rojers Nyarai Dzuda, was robbed of $1000 cash recently by three unknown individuals, including an elderly man, along the Rusape-Nyanga road.
The incident occurred when Dzuda, of Rugoi Business Centre, Rusape offered two people, an elderly man and a woman, a lift while travelling towards Rusape.
“At around 10:30 hours, the complainant was driving his Mazda B100 towards Rusape when he gave a lift to two unknown people, including an elderly man just after Nyabadza Business Center.
“Upon reaching the Ministry of Education offices in Rusape, the elderly man who was sitting in the passenger seat asked to disembark together with the woman. Suddenly, a white Honda Fit with an unknown registration number came and dropped off another man who approached the complainant from behind, held his neck, and searched him. The elderly man took his wallet, which contained $1000 cash, and the trio vanished into a bush,” said Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Chinyoka
No arrests have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, three people were arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic on Monday in connection with stealing ZESA copper cables.
Chinyoka confirmed to The Midweek Watch about the arrest of Jacob Mazumbunye aged 33 of area 16 Dangamvura, Mutare, Tinashe Musara aged 31 of Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza and Tatenda Zimwenje aged 25 of Unit A chitungwiza.

“The detectives from CID Rusape received a tip off that the suspects were stealing and hiding copper cables at plot 97 Yorkshire, Headlands and around 07:00 hours of the same day the detectives picked the information that the accused were offloading copper cables from a Toyota Auris and loading them into a Toyota GD6 in the bush near Yorkshire primary school in Headlands and the detectives reacted,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka added that the detectives managed to block the vehicles along Mutare_Harare road which were heading to Harare at home park business centre between Marondera and Macheke and managed to arrest the trio who were in possession of pieces of armoured copper cables, transformers, water off tap cuts and the police managed to recover 1 and half tones of copper cables.
Police also called Lux Bungu aged 54 who is a ZESA employee, Wilson Chapenduma aged 62 employed by Telone and Richard Muzivamai aged 45 who is employed by the NRZ as a security guard from Rusape who were both the complainants and managed to positively identify their utilities.
