GWERU–A 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed while trying to quell a dispute between her friend and a male patron at a local bar in Mkoba, Gweru.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred at around 10pm on Saturday, at Flames Cocktail Bar, located at Mkoba 10 Business Centre.

The deceased, identified as Haifa Chiyangwa, had been drinking with friends at the bar when an argument broke out between one of her companion and male patron.

In an attempt to calm the situation, Chiyangwa reportedly intervened but was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object during the confrontation.

“She sustained a deep cut on the neck and bled profusely,” said Insp Mahoko Mahoko. “A well wisher rushed her to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where she unfortunately passed away shortly after admission.”

Following swift police investigations, a suspect, Chitifa Patson, also of Mkoba 10, was arrested in connection with the murder.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue and he is expected to appear in court soon.

Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public with any additional information to assist police in their inquiries.

“This case is another sad reminder of the need for people to be responsible and to seek peaceful ways to resolve differences,” he said.
