Date:

We often say prevention is better than cure. We should invest in lifestyle modification because these are real issues which are already catching up with us as we soldier into our forties.

Lifestyle modification is about taking conscious moves towards investing quality health in the acute phase to long term.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and Dyslipidaemias are directly correlated to our lifestyles. Exercise and dietary modification are key to prevent or delay onset of NCDs.

These two have a significant impact to BMI which is a good indicator of Cardiovascular Risk Score. Weight is the variable which determine our BMI because height is a constant.  Overweight to obesity increase the chance of developing Hyperlipidaemia, Hypertension, Diabetes. This tripple Entente is the most lethal combination one can have. In this regard if you manage weight through exercise and diet, it translate to a favourable BMI which ranges from 18- 24.9.

Anything above this is overweight and anything below is underweight, remember underweight come which it’s manifestations because it’s not health.

Achieving good weight through exercise and diet means good BMI hence reduced chances of Hypertension, diabetes and fat disease.

Reduction of Cardiovascular Events also improves the quality of health and life.

These and many more are real issues we will be tackling along the way in this column.

Have a healthy lifestyle.

Yours in health Dr Douitie Chiwororo MBChB (UZ), MBA (GZU). Philadelphia Medical Corridor 0773289545. 0717462896.
