GWERU-The Midlands Province is geared to host the 43th Independence Day celebrations where opposition big wigs are set to attend the ceremony at Mkoba Stadium.
Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Larry Mavhima will deliver the presidential speech.
Provincial Secretary Abiot Maronge told The Midweek Watch that the province is expecting a bumper crowd at the main celebrations at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru.
He said all 8 districts will also have series of celebrations at wards levels.
“We are so pleased with the progress of preparations for the Independence celebration tomorrow. The response from the corporate world and all other stakeholders was overwhelming. We are ready for the celebrations and we are expecting 15 000 people to attend the event.
“At local level, we organized commemoration at the district level to take the event closer to the community in line with devolution agenda.
“There will be lots of entertainment lined up, from schools, uniformed forces and local artists,” he said.
He said there are enough buses to ferry people to the venue and members of the public are expected to start going to the stadium by 8AM.
Meanwhile, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) provincial chairperson, Josiah Makombe said his party will attend the Independence celebration as it is a national event.
He encouraged party supporters to go out in their numbers and attend the Uhuru celebrations at their localities.
This year’s main event will be held in Mt Darwin where President Mnangagwa will deliver his speech.
