Gweru- The Police in Midlands Province has intensified road safety awareness on the roads as the Easter Holidays approach which are characterized by increased accidents.
The police has deployed more officers on the roads to fight crime and prevent truant driving by motorists as they celebrate Easter.
This initiative aims to create a safer environment for all and reduce crime rates in both urban and rural areas, The Midweek Watch has learnt.
In a statement released earlier this week , Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said community involvement in combating crime is key as part of the strategy to minimize crimes across the vast province.
“Safety is a collective responsibility. We urge all residents to be vigilant and take proactive measures to protect their properties. Our message is clear: ensure that someone is present in your home at all times, secure all windows, and lock your doors when you are away or during the night.”
The Police also invited residents to utilize a free service that allows them to place their homes under police supervision while they are away. This initiative aims to provide peace of mind to homeowners and deter criminal activity.
“Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest police station to learn more about this service and participate in the upcoming crime awareness campaigns. The police will also provide tips on how to protect oneself and one’s property effectively
“As part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, the ZRP has increased patrols on major roads and highways, particularly during peak travel times. Officers will focus on educating drivers about safe driving practices and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.” Mahoko added.
