MASVINGO – Cephas Nduna (50) who is mentally challenged of Village Nduna under Chief Gudo is in Chiredzi police custody for killing his wife with an axe handle last Saturday.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Lorine Chanakira-Ndlovu confirmed the unfortunate incident to The Midweek Watch.
Ndlovu stated that the Nduna was customarily married to Nomatter Mukuze (33) from the same village but were on separation and the deceased was staying at her parent’s place.
On 11 November Nduna went to his mother in law’s homestead and persuaded his wife to go back with him to their marital home since his first wife had deserted him.
The wife agreed to go with him and upon arrival at their homestead they had a misunderstanding which led to Nduna taking an axe handle and hit Mukuze once on the left side of her forehead and she fell down and started bleeding profusely.
Nduna ran away leaving Mukuze on the ground and his young brother Giveson Nduna (42) came and the deceased narrated the whole ordeal to him before she died and he went to report the matter to Ndali Police Station.
The police came and took the body to Chiredzi District Hospital where it is awaiting postmortem.
After they have taken the body the police picked some information on Nduna’s whereabouts and tracked him to nephew’s place in Chipinge, Mukuku Village under Chief Garahwa where they arrested him.
Ndlovu urged the communities to take mental health issues seriously because people always get hurt or die in the process.
