Gokwe – In a shocking incident that left the community speechless, a 35-year-old man from Manoti Village in Gokwe, who is suspected to be mentally challenged, has allegedly stoned two villagers to death.

The suspect, Obvious Ngwazani, was reportedly armed with stones and mercilessly attacked the now-deceased Shekem Muromo (58) and Bonface Gwatiringa (60) after the two had pleaded with him to dress properly.

The incident occurred on July 17, 2024, around 5 pm near the Batanai Roman Catholic church in Manoti, Gokwe.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that Ngwazani charged towards the two, struck Muromo once on the head, causing him to fall down and die instantly.

He then attacked Gwatiringa, striking him several times with stones until he also fell down and died on the spot.

According to Insp Mahoko, Muromo and Gwatiringa were on their way home from Manoti Business Centre when they saw Ngwazani sitting by the roadside without a shirt.

The two then ordered Ngwazani to put on his shirt, which angered him and led to the tragic attack.

The heinous incident happened in the presence of a Roman Catholic Priest, who immediately reported the matter to the police.

The two bodies were later conveyed to the Gokwe South District Hospital.

In a separate incident on the same day at 4pm, a Chirumhanzu man, Chrispen Chengeta (37), is battling for his life at the hospital after his stomach was cut open during a wage dispute with a co-worker.

According to Insp Mahoko, Chengeta approached the salary clerk over his outstanding wage of $24.

The incident took place at Majuta fuel station, Charandura Business Centre in Chirumhanzu.

Insp Mahoko said Chengeta approached the salary clerk over his outstanding wage amounting to $24.

When he was advised to wait for their employer, a misunderstanding ensued between Chengeta and his co-worker, Justin Svosve (38).

Svosve, who was armed with a knife and an iron bar, struck Chengeta on the back with the iron bar and then stabbed him in the stomach, leaving his intestines hanging outside the stomach.

Svosve is currently in police custody, and urged people to refrain from resorting to violence when resolving disputes.
