MASVINGO-Fast growing United Nations affiliated Women Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) has appointed Benonia Machavuda as Masvingo Province ambassador.
WEDO country ambassador, Masvingo based publisher and businesswoman, Angeline Mikiri told The Midweek Watch that Machavuda was appointed this year in order to spearhead the programs in the Province as well as growing the women mainly organization.
“Machavuda was appointed the Masvingo Province WEDO ambassador as she has a passion for the upliftment and empowerment of women in the Province and through her capable leadership the organsiation is set for greater times.
“We are very confident that she will represent the organization to the best of her ability, we are proud of her and wish her the best as she assumes her ambassadorial duties,” said Mikiri.
Machavuda said she was excited by her new role and will not disappoint as she has a strong passion for women empowerment.
Machavuda is the Director for Eben Hardware specialising in agro and poultry business and her shop is opposite Glow Service Station in Masvingo CBD.
Eben Hardware is the only approved Hamara poultry and feed agent in Masvingo.
“As Eben Hardware we take great interest in women empowerment through agriculture and have hit the ground running in Masvingo and surrounding communities when it comes to women and the girl child support in agricultural projects especially with the Hamara roadrunner Sasso breed,” she told The Midweek Watch.
Machavuda is also a board member for Hope Tariro Trust, that deals with orphans, girls and other vulnerable children and board chair for Ratidzo Zimcare Trust School, the only school in Masvingo Province which educates children living with disabilities.
She is also a full-time lecturer at Masvingo Teachers College in the Mathematics and Science Department. She is a holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Maths and Statistics from the University of Zimbabwe, post graduate Diploma in Education from Midlands State University, Environmental Education Certificate from Shiga University in Japan, Special Honours Degree in Research Methods and Statistics and Post graduate Diploma in Disaster Management from Great Zimbabwe University.
“Our movement accelerates and educates the world on the importance of why it’s pivotal to empower women in business globally. WEDO convenes Business Leaders, Change Makers, Government Officials and Civil Society to collaborate and find solutions in critical areas of entrepreneurship ecosystems, education and policy creation to empower women in business,” added Mikiri.
WEDO which was founded in 2013 is celebrated at the United Nations and in 144 countries and 65 universities/colleges internationally.
“When women are elevated financially, communities and countries prosper. It builds a global blueprint to alleviate and eradicate poverty.
Since the first WEDO, we have grown our organization to become a powerful network for women in business, and have reached over 5 billion people,” said Mikiri.
The first country ambassador was Natalie Jabangwe, former ECOCASH chief executive officer was appointed in 2015 before she relocated to South Africa.
