KWEKWE- Sylvester Ncube (25) died after he was severely assaulted at his girlfriend’s house.

Ncube was assaulted with a sjambok and an unknown object all over the body after being mistaken for a thief.

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred on July 2, 2023 at around 9pm in Mbizo,  Kwekwe.

Inspector Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that Ncube visited his girlfriend who stays in Mbizo and knocked the door of his girlfriend but there was no response.

He said Ncube went to a neighbouring house, knocked again and the occupant of the house Phillip Luthuli (22) got out and teamed up with Shepherd Mafukidze to assault him.

“The two assaulted Sylvester Ncube with a sjambok and another unknown object all over the body after suspecting him to be a thief,” said Insp Mahoko.

He added that on July 7, 2023, Ncube started complaining of pain on the ribs and disclosed the assault to his friends.

“He was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was admitted” and on July 8, at around 12pm, Ncube’s condition deteriorated and he passed on at Kwekwe General Hospital,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the two suspects, Mafukidze and Luthuli have since been arrested for murder.

He warned members of the public against assaulting or applying instant justice to persons they arrest as suspects.
