KWEKWE- Mbizo Cricket Club is basking in glory after its opening batsman, Clifford Takaedza scored his first 50 runs and named man of the match as he steered his team to their first National Premier League win.
Mbizo Cricket Club beat Golden Bulls last week at Kwekwe Sport Club.
The team had gone for nine consecutive games without a win. Its batsman Takaedza reached his first NPL career 50 from 49 deliveries as he powered six fours and one sixes. Takaedza set the team’s highest individual scores in a one day match scoring a total 63 runs out of 58 balls.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch during a telephone interview recently, Takaedza said the win is a great achievement for the team and his career.
“This is a great achievement for me and the team. I dedicate this play to my team because we play as a team.
” NPL is a tough league and we have learnt a lot. Now that we know our mistakes, we will improve the type of play in the next fixtures,” he said.
Mbizo coach, Ronald Masocha said they have been identifying gaps in their team and they are now ready to fix the loopholes.
“We have lost nine games because we are still on a learning curve. However, we managed to identify our loopholes within our team.
” We are prepared for the next game and we are looking forward to win in all the remaining three games because we now know our strengths and weaknesses,” Masocha.
Meanwhile, Mbizo cricket team is now on the 13th position on the log standings while Golden Bulls anchors the log with Chitungwiza Gladiators sitting at the apex with 90 points from the nine games
Takashinga Club 2 is on second position with 70 points after losing one game from the nine matches while Takashinga 1 is sitting on the third position with 70 points as well.
